No one plays the santur, India's hammered dulcimer, like Tarun Bhattacharya. One of modern India's most brilliant and original musicians,Tarun's playing transforms this percussive instrument to approximate the subtle nuances and gliding note-bends of the human voice. Emulating sometimes the deep timbre of the veena, sometimes the sensuous ornamentation of sitar-sarod, Tarun can evoke prenatal memories or immerse the audience into communion with the mystic heart of Nature. With more than a dozen national and international recordings, Tarun has reached the hearts of millions by his charismatic genius. Here, he elaborates on the beautiful and evocative mood of spiritual romance characterizing Raga Rageshree, in three perfectly structured movements, building from the slow, nostalgic circlings of the alaap to the magical sustained intensity of the gat.

No one plays the tabla like Bikram Ghosh. Combining the pitch and tone varying subtleties of the North Indian Farukhabad gharana with the staccato driving progressions of Carnatic percussion, this young master is unexampled among contemporary tabla players. Bikram received early training under his father, the versatile Shankar Ghosh, and showed the unmistakable signs of child prodigy. Today, he is sought after as an accompanist by the most eminent classical musicians of India. Bikram plays routinely with Tarun Bhattacharya and the two of them together have set up such a rapport that a performance by them becomes an awesome mesmeric experience of spontaneous intuitivity.

Mental Bliss, dedicated to the higher evolution envisaged by the modern world-teachers Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, presents the duo at their best. Tarun fills the mind with crystalline echoes and brilliant lightnings and Bikram Ghosh's accompaniment is a steady rain, matching note for note the dazzling intricacies of the santur.Together.they provide a wordless glimpse into the delights that attend upon a transformed humanity.
