- Wilhelm Halbfass' book by the above name appeared in 1988 and swiftly became one of the most influential texts among contemporary literature committed to a serious understanding of hermeneutical issues related to the east-west dialog. In this review, Debashish Banerji explores the offerings and challenges of this book, which looks at the roots of Neo-Hinduism by considering the major figures of the turn-of-the-century Bengal Renaissance, including Rammohun Roy, Debendranath and Rabindranath Tagores, Bankimchandra Chatterjee, Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo and others.
